White Christmas

Having a White Christmas may be a bit over rated. Christmas is GREAT but why would it be better to be white?

Maybe we get mail today!!!!!!

Well,..........Probably not.

Cabin Fever

I haven't shoveled snow since I moved off Mt. Hood in 1995. Yesterday, after being snowed in since last week, I cleaned off the car and shoveled a path for the passengers. However I only drove to the end of the driveway and discovered the partially packed and rutted snow on the street was too much for my snow tires and I quickly decided it was not worth putting the chains on. ( I haven't used them since the Mt Hood days. ) We outfitted Heather with a backpack and Sandi, Heather and I walked to the grocery store and public mail box. We haven't received mail lately but at least we could send some out. We took the camera along to record events. Sandi has been making quilts during our enforced time at home so we also decided to walk a little out of the way to a friend's house to pick up a quilt batt.

Heather said goodbye to Dustbunny who doesn't much care for the snow and stays under the wheelbarrow most of the time when he is outside.

There is some traffic on the streets, mostly chained up, and several people are out walking. The scenery is pretty nice with the snow on everything. This holly tree looks festive for the season.

Now, maybe the mail will get through......

or this might be the reason for the delay.

A long walk to town needs to be rewarded.

You can't waste a significant (historic) snow event without making a snow angel.

Good thing quilt batts are not heavy.

Spring must be right around the corner.

Winter on Our Street

A little snow storm blew through here Wednesday night and since it is an unusual event in our area, schools and many businesses closed. Our house looks peaceful and snug with the snow decoration. The city crew stuck a small plow on their 1 ton and did their best to keep a couple of main streets passable. Ours is not a main street and it is still closed.
It doesn't look threatening at the top and many people ignore the sign.
It is not too bad down to our place in the trees on the right in the picture below. We are scheduled for a major wind storm tomorrow night. I hope the trees can stand up to it.

When you get just below our house , the ground drops away down to the lake. This is a good place to turn around when it is slippery. Some seem to think of the hill as a challenge to be conquered. You can see the point of no return in the picture below.

After you start down it is a clear shot to the lake except for the freeway at the bottom and a football practice field.
The car on the left was parked there before the road was closed. The driver was a Seattle Seahawk football player. He said he learned that after you start down, don't step on the brakes.
The wrecker got him back on the road early Friday evening. No damage to the car!
If we get another few inches of snow as forecast, we will have a good vantage point for watching the show.

Week-end Fun

We are snowed in today so it is time to BLOG!!!!

Saturday night Sandi and I attended a company party. The food was really good. At the end of the evening there were a couple of DJs playing dance music. The current dance styles baffle me, where most of the dancers seem to stand in the middle of the dance floor and kind of jump up and down, not necessarily in time to the music. That left Sandi and I some room to dance over on one corner of the small floor. Our style of dance probably baffles the young folks, so we were even. They started having dance contests on about every fifth song and we were pretty much out of the running with the break dancing exhibitions. On about the third contest they played a swing dance. Only about 10 couples competed. Sandi and I tried a really fast version of the west coast swing and won a pretty nice piece of luggage for 1st place prize.

Our finest Christmas dance attire.

Then, Sunday we joined a multi-stake assembly and sang excerpts from Handel's Messiah. It was really great. We have some really talented musicians in our area. A small orchestra was located in front of the pews and several vocalists sang the solos from the stand. The entire congregation sang the chorus parts.
